Shawnee Trail Cycling Club will host the Ride of Silence event in Frisco on Wed, May 18th, 6:30pm. We'll be rolling out from the CTE Center, 9889 Wade Blvd, Frisco.
This event was started in Dallas in 2003 as a memorial ride for Larry Schwartz, a cyclist killed on the road as a result of being hit by a school bus mirror.
That first year, advertised by word of mouth and through email, brought 1,000 cyclists together at White Rock Lake. It has since morphed into a global event, with 2015 seeing 12,000 cyclists at 340 known events in cities around the world. We come together once per year, riding in silence to show remembrance and respect for our fellow cyclists that have been killed or injured as a result of accidents on the road.
Each year we at STCC cancel our Wednesday night rides in order to focus on this very important evening. Come join us. We’ll have an informal pre-ride ceremony and share experiences, then roll out for a silent, 10 mile ride at approximately 12 mph. Our route will take us through Frisco and will demonstrate our resolve and plight to those around us.

The Ride of Silence...
Tonight we number many but ride as one
In honor of those not with us, friends, mothers, fathers, sisters, sons
With helmets on tight and heads down low,
We ride in silence, cautious and slow
The wheels start spinning in the lead pack
But tonight we ride and no one attacks
The dark sunglasses cover our tears
Remembering those we held so dear
Tonight's ride is to make others aware
The road is there for all to share
To those not with us or by our side,
May God be your partner on your final ride
