PGA Trail

Have you heard about the stunning new trail that winds along the southern edge of the PGA golf courses in Frisco? This 3.5-mile path, a joint project between the City of Frisco and Omni PGA, offers a serene escape from the hustle and bustle. While it's officially part of the city's Hike and Bike network, there are a few unique features that set it apart.

Where is the PGA Trail?

This 3.5 mile section of trail follows the southern end of the PGA golf courses, between Teel and Legacy, north of Fields Pkwy.

PGA Trail Purpose

The primary purpose of this trail is designated as a Perimeter Tournament Support Road (per the contract between Omni PGA and the City of Frisco), designed to handle service vehicles, media trucks, fan transportation and the like.  The secondary purpose is as a Community Hike and Bike Trail, part of the Frisco Hike and Bike network.

Access from the West.   The entrance from Teel is a tricky one.  Although the trailhead can be accessed from Teel and there is a light there, be aware this light is not designed as a pedestrian crossing.  There is no crosswalk and there is no way to activate the light to cross to/from the hike & bike path on the west side of Teel.  You cross at your own risk.   There are also no sidewalks for access from the east side of Teel and the roundabout at the intersection with Fields Parkway has no bicycle friendly features, making a crossing of this already busy roundabout risky.

Access from the East.   Much easier on/off access from the east along Legacy at multiple points close to the Omni PGA.   Under construction are future access points from trails going under the bridge on Legacy.

Connections.   There are two connection points for easy access from future neighborhoods and other trails under both Legacy and Fields Pkwy.   Note these connection points will be closed when PGA Trail is unavailable during PGA events and alternative routes will have to be used.

Trail Availability, including ancillary connecting trails

From the schedule that is part of the contract between PGA, Omni PGA and the City of Frisco.  There are at least two Major Tournaments schedule every year.  Each of those involves extensive closure of the PGA Trail, some more than others.  For some events, like next years Women's PGA Championship,  the trail will be closed for 4 months prior to the event and up to 2 months after (in 2023, it was closed for 5 mos).   Other events require the trail to be closed anywhere from 30-180 days.  There are two major tournaments per year contractually agreed and this does not include other events that might come up.

Closure Notification.  The City of Frisco, PGA and Omni PGA will coordinate efforts to block public access to the trail (signs, gates, barricades).   It is assumed that this notification will be at the trailhead on Teel and the other neighborhood access points that are being established.

Parking Availability.  There is no designated parking for community use of this trail.    Additionally, during listed major tournaments, the PGA will have control over all paved parking spaces within Northwest Community Park (the new MTB park) for 14 days, which will affect access to the park.

Route options during closure.  Until the Frisco Hike and Bike network in the northwest quadrant is built out, there are few options for trail and off street use during PGA Trail closure.

Trail Maintenance

Mowing and Landscape.  This is the responsibility of Omni PGA.

Trail & Panther Creek Bridge Maintenance.  Omni PGA responsibilities.

  • Pavement cracking shall be replaced with 10 business days of notification
  • If bridge washes out or is impassable/not usable, Omni PGA shall remedy within 30 days, although there are reasonable exceptions.

Trail Problem Reporting.  The City of Frisco has directed us to the Omni PGA to handle any maintenance or cleanup required on this trail.  Although there is not a contact specifically designated for this, we would direct you to their general number (469.305.4500), asking for the Head of Operations.   If we get something more specific, we’ll share.
